A Study in Symbols is an ongoing body of collage work that treats the human figure as a site where symbolic systems collide. Rather than depicting individuals, these figures are constructed from fragments drawn from advertising, science, classical sculpture, medicine, architecture, and popular culture. The body becomes a framework through which disparate visual languages occupy the same space.

The works are less concerned with what individual symbols mean than with what happens when they encounter one another. Images that ordinarily belong to separate systems of knowledge—scientific, historical, commercial, mythological, psychological—are displaced from their original contexts and reorganized through collage. Meaning emerges through proximity rather than illustration.

These figures function less as portraits than as symbolic landscapes. They are composite bodies assembled from inherited images, cultural memory, and visual residue. The resulting relationships remain deliberately unresolved, allowing symbols to accumulate, interfere with one another, and generate meanings that exceed any single interpretation.
